Most of the time, when one mentions Swiss food, the main things that probably come to mind are Raclette and fondue. But obviously, Swiss cuisine is more than just that, and Coucou Restaurant in the Tanjong Pagar neighbourhood is arguably one of the best places to experience it at its most authentic.
Located at 9 Craig Road, the restaurant recently underwent a makeover of its interior, transforming the space into a whimsical, vibrant, yet cosy place to dine. A new, revamped menu accompanies the new look as well.
Some of the new items include the La Fameuse Salade CouCou (S$12), featuring crisp strips of cabbage tossed tableside in a “Grand Père” (grandfather) dressing. Creamy and refreshing, this salad is a great way to whet your appetite.
The Tartare de Beouf Préparé à Table (S$42) is mixed right at the table, featuring beef prepared with Swiss Sbrinz Cheese and Rucula salad. A portion is good for 2 to 3 pax to share.
A meal at Coucou would not be complete without their signature fondues. The Fondue Moitié-Moitié (S$38 per pax, min 2 pax), whose name translates to “half-half”, uses a traditional recipe made up of 50% Gruyère cheese and 50% Vacherin Fribourgeois cheese.
Every fondue is served with bread, and you can opt for additional sides such as Sliced Veal Sausage (S$12), Steamed Vegetables (S$6) or Boiled Baby Potatoes (S$6).
The other signature to try is the Malakoff Coucou (S$12 for one), described as a “cheese dome”. It’s fried cheese, it’s gooey and melty and everything good inside, what more could you ask for?
For mains, there is the Le Pavé de Bar au Safran (S$37), featuring a pan-fried fillet of sea bass and topped with a saffron cream sauce.
Meat lovers can opt for the L’Iconique Emincé de Veau Zurichoise (S$37), a hearty combo of Coucou’s famous rosti and Zurich-style veal ragout.
Save room for dessert, too – chocolate enjoyers should go for the Crème Brûlée XL au Toblerone (S$22). Those who want something more tart and tangy can try the Tartelette au Citron Carmélisée de Mrs Chin (S$15).
Coucou also has an After-Ski Happy Hour. Enjoy S$12 Happy Hour Specials every day from 12pm – 2pm, and 6pm – 7.30pm. Choose from either Prosecco, Brewlander Beer Pint or Red Wine Sangria.
