Are you looking for something to do on the last weekend of Sep? You’re in luck because Esplanade will host Crossing Borders 2026 on 27 Sep. The event brings a variety of music and dance from all around the world for you to enjoy. Best of all, admission is free.
Performances will be at either the Esplanade Concourse or DBS Foundation Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. If you prefer some hands-on fun, there’s also a workshop to try out.
People who love learning new things or simply being more involved can join SAMBIESTA’s Afro-Brazilian Percussion Workshop. The workshop will be held at 12pm at the Esplanade White Room. Fear not, the workshop is beginner-friendly, and you’ll be guided along the way to understand the basics of this genre. The class culminates in a performance where you drum together with other participants as an ensemble. Do note that limited seats are available for this workshop, so hurry down.
Held at Esplanade Concourse at 4.45pm, A Musical Journey Through Spain and Latin America celebrates the rich musical connections between these 2 parts of the world. Spanish flautist Rodrigo Parejo and Cuban guitarist Ernesto Castillo will perform for 30 minutes on stage.
You’ll be able to enjoy their harmonious collaboration of flute and guitar, accompanied by a blend of flamenco, Afro-Cuban rhythms, Brazilian music, jazz, and original compositions inspired by Latin American traditions.
If you missed the workshop earlier or want to experience the infectious energy of Afro-Brazilian percussion once again, you can head to watch Where Rhythm Comes Alive: Afro-Brazilian Percussion with SAMBIESTA. Held at DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade, the 30-minute performance celebrates Brazil’s musical traditions with a dynamic showcase of rhythms. There are 2 time slots to enjoy the show: 5.30pm and 7pm.
Fans of Japanese culture can tune into the Sound of Okinawa. The show will be held at the Esplanade Concourse at 5.45pm and 6.45pm. Okinawan group Tink Tink combines traditional melodies and instruments with contemporary pop influences for a special performance. Using song, dance and the unique sound of the sanshin, the group will draw a connection between Okinawa and Singapore, both islands with rich traditions.
End the night with Ambiguous Dance Company’s FEVER dance performance. The energetic dance crew will take the stage at DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade at 8.15pm. You can expect traditional Korean music paired with contemporary dance and electronic beats.
