Scandinavian countries have been long-renowned for their beauty and minimalist, tranquillity they offer, along with strong eating philosophies of balanced diets and healthy eating.
Haakon Superfoods and Juice was opened as an attempt to transport the concept of these across thousands of miles into Singapore.
Haakon serves up a range of smoothies, juices, superfood bowls, salads and all-day breakfast dishes. The menu offerings feature nourishing ingredients that are in line with the cafe’s scandinavian philosophies.
For the start, we tried Haakon’s Classic Acai Bowl (Small $7.90, Medium $12.90). This small portion was actually served in a cup instead of the usual bowl that we are more familiar with. Nutrition-packed, the acai was topped with blended bananas, strawberries and blueberries. The sweet and sour taste from the berries went very well with sweet banana.
All these was served on a base of slightly sweet chia parfait, a perfect example of how something really healthy can taste great at the same time.
The Nordic Vafler, or waffles, with Smoked Salmon and Eggs ($12.90) were next. The waffles had a nice crispy outside with a mildly sweet and chewy texture inside. We liked this as a substitute for the usual breads that would go with smoked salmon and eggs.
The Smorrebrod Brunost ($11.90) was something more unique. While the bread felt and tasted like the muffin breads that you may get elsewhere. The distinct part was the Brunost, a brown caramel cheese topping.
Think of it as a slightly smoky cheddar cheese infused with a sweet caramel flavour. The combination of a sweet and sour lingonberry jam was certainly a unique new flavour to us!
We also tried the Nut Milk ($7.50), which was made from almonds, sea salt and dates. There was a kind of organic and refreshing taste and the slight sweetness of the cold drink is something that will go well with the food served at this cafe.
For healthy cafe food with a twist, drop by Haakon Superfoods and Juice. If you are not sure what to order, we recommend the superfood bowls the most.
