Hunk Seafood: Sexy Hunks Serving Up Jumbo Prawns & Other Seafood At Hua Nam Night Market In Bangkok

Hunk Seafood 1

If you enjoy seeing “Shuai Ge” (good-looking guys) with their muscles and abs, dancing around while you munch on fresh seafood, then Hunk Seafood is the place for you.

Hua Nam Night Market is a busy night market with many small street food stalls and clothing shops, so you can eat and shop your way through Bangkok, Thailand in that one night market. One eatery located in a corner stood out to me the most: Hunk Seafood.

Hunk Seafood is a restaurant which combines the culture of ladyboys in Thailand and the Thai love for seafood.

Entering the restaurant, we were greeted by half-naked “hunks” wearing just a silk apron over themselves.

We noticed that the restaurant was consistently packed the whole time we were there. With so many locals here, it’s always a sign of where the good food is at.

The waiters were all sculpted half-naked men with just an apron over them. Every 30 minutes or so, a lively soundtrack would come on, prompting these waiters to break out into dance.

They seemed very passionate about their dancing, adding a level of entertainment to the meal.

After the music stops, the waiters go back to taking orders.

Diving into the food, we ordered several items from the menu although the selection of seafood seemed limited.

We had the Mussels (THB 100), which were served in a high pile on our plate — a huge portion for its price.

The mussels were simply blanched in salt water, so it was almost like eating them straight from the sea, with the brininess accentuating the naturally sweet mussels.

However, I was slightly disappointed as the mussels were not cleaned out properly, so there were bits of sand and hair in them. In addition, the mussels weren’t warm when we got our dish.

Next, we ordered the Scallops (THB 100) which came in a plate of six. I was expecting the scallops to be grilled with garlic butter, but they were simply seasoned with some salt and pepper and looked rather dry.

Hunk Seafood 14

I felt that the scallops were slightly under-seasoned and could do with more salt to bring out its sweetness. The scallops were very small and did not have much bite to it.

However for just S$4, it was still fairly cheap.

Hunk Seafood 2

The restaurant has several sizes for its Thai River Prawns (THB 250/Small, THB 350/Medium, THB 600/Jumbo).

The jumbo prawns were huge and fresh, with just enough time on the grill to retain the natural taste.

Hunk Seafood 7

The grilled prawns even came with roe in their heads. It had a buttery and creamy consistency with slightly nutty and bitter notes, leaving a smooth buttery aftertaste in my mouth.

Hunk Seafood 8

The prawns were really fresh and I could peel off the shell easily.

Hunk Seafood 13

I recommend dipping the prawns in the Thai green chilli sauce that they provide on the side.

Hunk Seafood 16

The Thai green chilli sauce provided a kick of subtle spiciness at the end, together with a sour body. The zing from the chilli sauce refreshed my palate and I kept going back for more of the succulent prawns.

Hunk Seafood 6

The prawns were definitely the highlight of the restaurant.

Hunk Seafood puts a unique and very entertaining twist on the usual seafood restaurant.

I just wished they had more dishes on their rather limited menu, and perhaps some form of carbs such as noodles.

Nevertheless, Hunk Seafood would be a great place for affordable seafood with a few cans of cheap Singha Beer (THB 100).

Expected Damage: THB 800 – 1000 per pax
