The authentic Korean hawker stall, Jeong’s Jjajang, has shut down its popular outlet within a coffeeshop in Bukit Merah. However, not to fret, for the business will be relocating to a new restaurant space in Somerset.
Jeong’s Jjajang made the announcement via their social media, in which they explained that they are no longer operating in Bukit Merah, and are “currently preparing” their new premises at 75 Killiney Road.
Jeong’s Jjajang serves Korean-Chinese cuisine, and is helmed by a Korean chef from Daegu, Mr Jeong Jun Seong. The stall first opened within Bukit Merah Central on 2 Jun 2022, and had its start as a cloud kitchen concept at JTC Space @ Tampines North in May 2021.
One of the owners of Jeong’s Jjajang revealed that the business aims to open by the third week of December, though this will depend on the results of inspections by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
The owner added that the business decided to move out of Bukit Merah Central as the rent for coffeeshops with high footfall was expensive. Furthermore, they could only work with a limited menu, given how small the kitchen was. “We chanced upon this unit at Killiney and thought we could work with a wider menu since the kitchen is bigger.”
Though the menu at the Killiney Road outlet has yet to be unveiled, diners can likely expect to enjoy some of Mr Jeong’s famous dishes, plus even more new creations. The owner revealed: “There will be an expected price increase of about 20%, but we will be keeping prices competitive and will make up for it with better / more ingredients.”
An example of the price increase at Jeong’s Jjajang is the Jjajangmyeon, a noodle dish which comes with black soybean sauce, minced pork and vegetables. This dish will cost S$9.90 during lunch on weekdays, a price that is fairly close to their coffeeshop pricing.
The eatery’s new Killiney Road outlet will most certainly face quite a bit of competition, as it’s located in the vicinity of a myriad of other F&B businesses, including Killiney Kopitiam. We wish the owners all the best in navigating their new venture!
