If you’ve only known the zoo in the heat of the day, this is a refreshing switch-up — because Johor Zoo is now open at night, and it feels like an entirely different experience.

The night safari is part of a broader upgrade backed by RM5 million in funding. Beyond simply extending operating hours, the focus is on making the zoo more comfortable and intuitive to explore.

Up to 80% of the grounds are set to be more accessible for families, elderly visitors, and wheelchair users. This includes the pathways at night too, which are wheelchair-friendly!

After dark, the space takes on a softer, more atmospheric tone. Picture dimly lit walkways, subtle glowing elements, and animals that are naturally more active at night.

Make sure to also check out Johor Zoo’s new attraction, Reptile House — featuring adorable acold-blooded fellas from snakes to lizards!

With feeding sessions and keeper talks woven into the experience, it leans closer to something more exciting that you can plan your evening around, rather than just a casual stroll.

Since reopening in Aug 2024, the zoo has already drawn around 500,000 visitors and is home to 373 animals across 65 species. This night safari is a natural extension of that momentum — and an easy reason to revisit, even if you’ve been before.

The Johor night zoo opens on Fridays to Sundays, plus public and school holidays, from 8pm to 11pm (last entry at 10pm), with a break from 6pm to 8pm before reopening. Tickets are kept accessible too — RM5 for children and RM10 for Malaysian adults.

And really, it’s the kind of outing that doesn’t ask for much — just a free evening and a bit of activities. Go after dinner, take it slow, and let the quieter, cooler side of the zoo unfold at its own pace. Click here to secure your tickets now!
