New in town: Kampong Amin Dim Sum, Jalan Besar — Dim sum lovers’ next must-try dim sum spot

It seems like it’s prime dim sum season these days, with the recent new dim sum places and deals around. Adding to the mix is the recently opened Kampong Amin Dim Sum, a Muslim-owned dim sum eatery at Jalan Besar.

At Kampong Amin Dim Sum, look forward to a mix of local Chinese dishes and Hong Kong-style dim sum. They have a Lunch (11.30am to 2.30pm) and Dinner (5pm to 10.30pm) menu, with the latter offering a wider range of Chef’s Specialties and side dishes, on top of the regular Dim Sum selection.

Don’t miss the Char Kway Teow (S$8.90 for Special; S$12.90 for Special with Crab Meat), which is one of the Chef’s signature dishes. These classic stir-fried flat rice noodles are such a familiar and feel-good dish, it almost feels mandatory to have a plate every once in a while.

If you’re in the mood for rice instead (we all have those days), opt for the Egg Fried Rice. You can choose to have that with Prawn (S$7.90) or with Chicken Chop (S$9.90), but either way, both sound equally promising.

As for the dim sum selection, look forward to delights such as the Supreme Har Kao (Prawn Dumpling) (S$5.50) and Signature Lo Mai Gai (Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken) (S$5.50). These classic dim sum dishes will definitely have you feeling full and satisfied after a trip to Kampong Amin Dim Sum.

Of course, after the savoury goodness of dim sum and char kway teow, who can say no to some sweet contrast in dessert? Try the Net Sweet Potato Roll (S$5.50) or the Sesame Peanut Ball (S$3) for a rich, sweet end to your meal. I’m not one for too much uncertainty, but the prospect of a dessert surprise does sound tempting.
