As the dough rises, so does our excitement. Kohpan has recently opened a second outlet at Kovan, and it seems that the shio pan fans are flocking there!

Originally a home-based business in Sembawang, Kohpan is run by 2 siblings, Ronda and Gerald (who have a 10 year age gap!). It is a Japanese-style bakery based in Singapore that specialises in shio pan – buttery, salty bread rolls — that have taken the internet by storm in recent months.

They specialise in 3 flavours – Original, Mentaiko, and Truffle – though they have teased a new flavour launch, the Valrhona Noir & Orange. They are priced at:

Flavour Price (1pc) Price (3pc) Price (6pc) Price (9pc)
Original Crispy Crust Shio Pan S$3.90 S$11.70 S$23.40 S$34.90
Fukuoka Mentaiko (Japan) Shio Pan S$6.30 S$18.90 S$35.90 S$52.90
Premium Truffle Mushroom Shio Pan S$7.30 S$21.90 S$40.90 S$60.90
Mixed (Original + Mentaiko + Truffle) S$5.97 S$17.90 S$32.90 S$52.50

If you were alarmed by these prices, there is actually a justifiable reason behind these slightly pricier shio pans. Ronda and Gerald have mentioned that they use only premium ingredients: Mentaiko from Japan, Truffle from Italy, and Lescure butter, a premium French butter — to produce the shio pan‘s clean, buttery aroma without it feeling greasy.

Ronda is a longtime home-baker who has loved baking since childhood, and is concurrently running a home-based baking business, WhiskbyRonda. On the other hand, Gerald works primarily as a painter in construction, and got into baking by chance after having to attend a class on behalf of Ronda.

The business officially opened around August 2025, before moving out of their home into a tiny landed property along Thong Soon Avenue near Springleaf MRT. The space was originally a storage shed next to an electrical substation, and was also discovered by Gerald after he happened to park nearby. It seems fate has quite a way of catching up to Gerald.

Fast forward to March 2026 and Kohpan has opened a second outlet at Kovan, this time no longer a random electrical shed but a full retail shop. They are still focused on their takeaway model, with no dine-ins allowed. Though walk-ins are possible, fans are strongly encouraged to pre-order via their cococart website to ensure they will be able to get the shio pans before they sell out.

My team went down to the new stall (therefore these lovely pictures), but after seeing them, I am so tempted to bring my friends and family down to try the shio pan as well!
