It is a sad, sad day for sandwich lovers in Singapore. The popular sandwich and doughnut store, Korio, will be shuttering its doors at the end of the year after 4 years of operations.

Korio made the announcement via an Instagram post, explaining that the small size of their Far East Square outlet “hasn’t allowed for much growth”, and that they were forced to turn down corporate orders and events due to the space constraints of their kitchen.

Korio’s lease at Far East Square ends in December, and the team explained that they will be taking time to “regroup and evaluate” next steps for the business.

Though Korio fans may be heartbroken by the news, there is still a ray of light— the business added that they would hopefully open their doors to their customers again in the future. Hopefully, this means that the well-loved store will be able to find a more suitable space for them to grow and perhaps open once more.

In the past 4 years of its operations at Far East Square, Korio has steadily amassed a following of loyal customers, and has grown to become one of Singapore’s most well-recognised sandwich stores. Fans can’t get enough of their loaded sandwiches stuffed with overflowing ingredients— the Breakfast Sammy (S$14) is a popular pick, consisting of brioche bread filled with crispy spam, sauce gribiche, chives and American cheese.

Other enticing picks include Bobby Smalls (S$14), made with spam, cheddar cheese, American cheese, a fried egg, arugula and hot mayo, and Tuna Melt (S$17), a whole-wheat sourdough sandwich which encases tuna salad, cheddar, a fried egg, pickled chilli and tomatoes.

Korio’s fluffy doughnuts are pretty popular, too, available in flavours like Cinnamon Sugar | Whipped Honey Butter (S$5.50) and Honey | Smoked Sea Salt (S$5.50).

Be sure to head down to get your final taste of these famous sandwiches and bakes before they close indefinitely in December.
