There’s no shortage of bakeries in Kuala Lumpur these days, but newly-opened Kuasong is hoping to stand out with its playful Hong Kong cafe-inspired concept and a menu that goes beyond your usual pastries.

Located in Fraser Business Park, this cosy bakery cafe combines familiar baked favourites with creative local flavours, making it a spot worth checking out whether you’re grabbing breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a coffee break.

The bakery’s name is a fun play on the word “croissant,” which also hints at one of its specialties. Expect a tempting spread of freshly baked croissants with delicate, flaky layers alongside buttery shio pan that are soft and airy in the middle. Every tray coming out of the oven fills the cafe with that unmistakable aroma of freshly baked bread.

If you’re after the classics, you’ll find plenty to choose from, including butter croissants, chocolatines, polo buns, and traditional egg tarts. These timeless favourites make up the core of the menu and are perfect if you’re craving something simple yet comforting.

What makes Kuasong especially interesting, though, is its selection of Hong Kong-inspired savoury shio pan. Instead of sticking to conventional fillings, the bakery puts its own spin on the Japanese salt bread with flavours that blend familiar Hong Kong street food influences and cafe classics.

One of the standout creations is the Typhoon Shelter Char Siu Chicken Shio Pan, featuring house-made char siu chicken and their own typhoon shelter seasoning, giving every bite a savoury kick with plenty of umami

Other inventive flavours include the Curry Fishball Shio Pan, Crab Rangoon Shio Pan, and Scallion Cream Cheese Shio Pan, offering something a little different from what you’ll typically find at most bakeries in KL.
