A long-standing hidden gem at First Centre in Serangoon North is set to close its doors at the end of this month. Bid farewell to London Grill Japanese & Western, which will have its last day of operation on 31 Oct 2026 after 10 years in business.

The impending closure comes as a result of higher rental costs alongside other issues the owners face. Owned and operated by a very friendly and kind elderly couple, the stall has gained a loyal following over the years for its highly affordable Japanese and Western fare, with prices starting from just S$2.50.

The friendly auntie taking orders shared that the closure marks a permanent retirement for the couple, with no plans to relocate elsewhere. Here are some comforting dishes they serve up.

The Black Pepper Chicken Chop (S$6) features a generously-sized piece of chicken, smothered in a thick black pepper sauce. The chicken chop is accompanied by a combination of 3 different sides. Pictured is a bed of shredded lettuce, with coleslaw and a pile of crispy, golden-brown fries. Their menu pictures the chicken chop being served with baked beans instead, much like other old-school Western joints.

They also offer an old-school style Chicken Burger (S$2.50), which comes with a deep-fried chicken patty dressed in sweet chilli sauce on a bed of lettuce and mayo. For just S$2.50, it’s a classic snack for all ages that’s bound to put a smile on your face.
Look out for some of their Japanese dishes as well, including the Chicken Teriyaki Set (S$5) and the Chicken Katsu Don (S$4.30).
Beyond serving food, the couple has been an anchor for the workers at First Centre. Through their warmth and consistent service, they have forged good relationships with most of the people working in the building, making their upcoming departure a significant loss for the community. Head down to support auntie and uncle and wish them a happy retirement before their last day!
