Craving a little spice before your flight? How about a lot of spice? Well, Mala Mia, which opened on 14 Aug 2026 at Changi Airport T3, is the place to get your fix. And to all my Muslim friends, it’s officially halal-certified as of 12 Oct 2026! Now everyone can build their own custom mala bowls right before boarding.

For those of you who have never had mala before, here’s a quick guide on how to start. First, grab a bowl by the counter and head to their fridges. There, you can choose from more than 60 ingredients, including cheese, tofu and enoki mushrooms, lotus root and broccoli. With so many ingredients priced at S$2.90 per 100g, I can almost guarantee you’ll craft the perfect bowl for yourself. When you’re done, return to the counter and the staff will prepare your dish for you.

They offer a classic Stir Fry (S$1), with options for mala or non-spicy for the quintessential mala experience. Then there’s the Mala Cream Base Dry (S$1.50), which features a richer, unctuous flavour and slightly toned-down heat.

For something lighter and more comforting, there is their trio of soups: Chicken Collagen (S$2.50), Mala Collagen (S$2.50) and Tomato Collagen (S$2.50). These would be perfect right before a flight, in my opinion; they get you nice and comfy for the long ride.

I think Mala Mia has done a great job catering to every kind of customer, keeping the experience casual for those who can’t really handle the spice. Also, the free-flow drinks bar for S$3.90 really helps cool things down.

There are also sides like Scrambled Egg (S$3), Sichuan Pepper Corn Fries (S$7.90), La Zi Ji (S$8.90), Pao Cai (S$6.90) and Spicy Oil Dumplings (S$6.90) — perfect bites if you aren’t too hungry or an extra for your main dish.

Also, now that it’s halal-certified, this place is an easygoing spot that anyone can go to. They were officially certified on 12 Oct 2026. If you’re like me and enjoy hanging out at Changi Airport for the ‘travel vibes’, Mala Mia is a great place to take a load off for a bite to eat.
