More Than Just Milk: Over-The-Top Berries Smoothie Recipe

Ah, who doesn’t enjoy a guilt-free smoothie especially in the scorching tropical island we call home. When made with fresh milk, fruits and yoghurt, smoothies can deliver multiple health benefits including vitamins, probiotics, calcium and antioxidants.

For this recipe, I used a mix of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries as a great source of Vitamin C, dietary fiber and antioxidants that help keep many diseases at bay. The blueberries would also create more vibrant colors into the smoothie in addition to their beneficial antioxidants. The risk of cancer and heart diseases are believed to be minimized with the intake of more antioxidants.

Freeze your berries overnight first if you want to make a thicker smoothie that’s colder as well, but otherwise its fine to blend it as it is.

Mixed Berries Smoothie recipe for 1 serving:

  • 4 strawberries (frozen preferably)
  • 8 blueberries (frozen preferably)
  • 3 raspberries (frozen preferably)
  • 200ml fresh MARIGOLD HL Strawberry Milk
  • 3 full tablespoon natural, unsweetened yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 4 ice cubes (for a bit of texture and coldness)

Over-The-Top addons:

  • 1 strawberry donut
  • 3 pieces digestive biscuits
  • 2 strawberry wafer rolls
  • Whipped cream
  • Some honey

Well, a making a smoothie really doesn’t require you to be a professional chef; you just have to blend all the ingredients together and that’s it.

You can opt to use a full sized blender, or a hand blender stick which is much less a chore to clean up. Once done, just pour into a mug and enjoy it cold.

Now, if you want to make your smoothie ‘Over-The-Top’, things get a bit more tricky as well as fattening. First, you’ll want to break up a piece of digestive biscuit into crumbs in a bowl.

Coat the cup’s rim neck with a little honey, then dip the rim into the bowl of biscuit crumbs to get that rimmed biscuit effect. This proved to be pretty messy, so do put a plate below your Over-The-Top smoothie to catch all the falling crumbs. Also, you’ll want to use an empty glass first rather than pouring in the smoothie from the start.

Building the rest of the over-the-top smoothie is pretty simple. Lay 1 donut on the top of the glass and stuff 2 strawberry wafer rolls through the donut hole.

Next, build the biscuit cream sandwich by adding some whipped cream on one biscuit, then covering it up with another. Put the biscuit cream sandwich on the donut and sprinkle a little more crumbs on the cream for aesthetics. Your creation is now complete. The straw would go through the donut hole as well in case you’re wondering how to drink it.
