New in town: Singapore Jiak — Lunchtime at CBD just got interesting with 4 hawker brands under one roof from $5.80

To Central Business District workers: Do you find yourself dragging your leather shoes and high heels to lunch every weekday, wondering where to go? Simply head towards exit K of Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, walk towards Frasers Tower, and discover Singapore Jiak on level 2.

Housing 4 hawker brands, Singapore Jiak is a local dining concept by the Akashi Group which officially swung its doors open on 28 Aug 2023.

singapore jiak - grandma's

The first stall that we checked out was Grandma’s, which had the words ‘Heritage Nasi Lemak‘ on its signage. There are 3 options on the menu: Chicken Wing Nasi Lemak (S$5.80), Crispy Bukhari Chicken Leg Nasi Lemak (S$9.80), and Grandma’s Curry Chicken Nasi Lemak (S$9.80).

The in-house sambal simmers for 120 minutes, while their curry chicken marinates for 12 hours with their homemade rempah (spices) and slow-cooks in carefully chosen coconut milk.

The Grandma’s Curry Chicken Nasi Lemak had a curry chicken drumstick, a piece of omelette, anchovies and peanuts, braised cabbage, a couple of peanut fritters, sambal, and a mound of rice topped with fried crumbs.

The rice was perfectly cooked, bursting with coconut flavour and aroma. The curry chicken surprised me with its unique taste, blending seamlessly with the other components.

singapore jiak - ah goh's fish soup

Believe it or not, Ah Goh’s Fish Soup originated as a staff meal at a Japanese restaurant. They utilised premium Japanese fish bones and leftovers from sashimi trimmings to craft the stock. It was such a hit among the staff that they eventually decided to sell it.

Whether you opt for the Garoupa Fish Soup at S$8.80, Fried Fish Soup at S$5.80, or Sliced Fish Soup at S$5.80, the enticing aroma of the premium 20-year-old hua tiao wine infused into the broth will undoubtedly enhance the flavour of the soup.

The slices of fish were also fresh and I particularly loved the bits of egg floss which were added.

singapore jiak - dunman

If you were disappointed by the closure of Wanton Seng’s Noodle Bar earlier this year, you’ll be pleased to hear that the original kitchen team is now part of Dunman Wanton Mee, offering the same iconic lard-infused flavours and crispy pork belly that made the defunct eatery famous.

The Mixed Pork Wanton Mee (S$7.80) contains roasted pork belly, honey char siew steamed wantons, and golden nuggets of pork lard by the side.

Last but not least, Teck Kee Fat Duck (sister brand of London Fat Duck) sells Irish Duck, which is known to be the wagyu of ducks. We ordered the Roast Duck Rice (S$8.50) and it was served with a dried-shrimp laden chilli dip.

The menu also has Honey Char Siew with Noodles (S$6.80) and Salted Chicken Rice (S$5.80).

Clock in some steps and head over to Frasers Tower today for lunch or an early dinner. Who knows? You might just love it.
