From 2 May to 30 Jun 2025, Ang Mo Kio residents, especially those living in blocks starting with the number ‘3’, will have one less makan place, as Teck Ghee Court Market & Food Centre will be closed for Repair & Redecoration (R&R) works.

Established back in the late 1970s, this market and hawker centre has managed to preserve much of its nostalgic, old-school charm through the decades. In the mornings, the atmosphere comes alive with the bustling energy of the breakfast crowd and elderly folks buying their ingredients at the wet market.

However, as the afternoon creeps in, many of the stalls begin pulling down their shutters, leaving behind only a handful still operating during dinnertime.

When the hawker centre reopens on 1 Jul 2025, patrons and stall owners (mustn’t forget them) can look forward to upgraded facilities such as new tables, new fans for improved ventilation, and spanking-new tiles.

One of the popular stalls there during breakfast is Belinda’s Pancake, specialising in min jiang kueh (stuffed pancakes), peanut cones and the uncommon puttu mayam.

Aunty Belinda (the owner) is using this 2-month break to renovate her home and take a vacation with her family. She isn’t sure if rental will go up, but is crossing her fingers that it doesn’t.

Another popular stall there is Eng Kee Bak Kut Teh 永記肉骨茶, which also has a restaurant located along Havelock Road. It serves the Singaporean peppery version of Bak Kut Teh (S$8), and supposedly one of the best Pig’s Trotters (S$8) on our shores.

Fortunately, those staying in Ang Mo Kio have other hawker centres to visit such as 724 AMK Market & Food Centre, 409 AMK Market & Food Centre, Chong Boon Market & Food Centre, and more.

You can also visit Phuket Town Mookata for a delectable bowl of tom yum Mama noodles.
