Following its success at Orchard Central, Tempura Tendon Tenya opens its second outlet at ION Orchard. Not only is it their second outpost, but it also sees a slew of outlet-exclusive menu items that can only be enjoyed at ION Orchard. I suppose if you really were a die-hard fan of the brand, you could hop on a train and shuttle between the two outlets to complete your Tempura Tendon Tenya experience.

Salmon Tendon

As someone partial towards salmon—my fridge has an always-ready stock of this reliable fish for easy meals—their Salmon Tendon (S$14.90) is no exception to the rule of ‘dependable’. Battered till golden, the fatty fish doesn’t lose its succulence to the deep fryer. Be sure to pour on the extra crispy bits for a satisfying one-bowl meal.

Truffle chawanmushi

Go with the Truffle Chawanmushi (S$4) to add a touch of opulence to your main. This wasn’t the best truffle-something I’ve tasted, but it’s a sure-win for those who absolutely lust over the unmistakable aroma of this famed mushroom. I still would choose a stripped-down version of chawanmushi, but that’s just me being a basic b**tch.

Hiroshima Oyster Tempura

On the other hand, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Hiroshima Oyster Tempura (S$7.80), especially considering I can only stomach a pair of oysters at a time. The oysters proved to be sweet and briny, with just the right thickness of batter to not distract from the decadent oysters.

Kawa Ebi Karaage

If I could have this with every pint of beer, I would. The Kawa Ebi Karaage (S$7.50) is a toothsome side that will have you failing to resist finishing on your own. Spritz a dash of lime, and lord, help us all—it’s glorious.

Daifuku with soft serve

Just be sure to eat at a measured pace so that you have sufficient room for Daifuku with Soft Serve (S$4.40). While the dish isn’t exploding with novelty, its simplicity works in its favour; chewy mochi skin stuffed with starchy red bean, and complemented by creamy, airy vanilla soft serve. Who am I to complain?

These are just some of the ION Orchard outlet exclusives available, with a handful more that I shan’t reveal—because where would the joy in your visit be?
