Chef Mint, famously known for his time at now-closed The Social Outcast, sets his sights on a new summit — Malay heritage. The result is the Warisan Api pop-up at 12 Haig Road, a time machine of Malay cuisine. Chef Mint intends to use his entire repertoire when it comes to all things fire and ash to recreate some iconic and underrated Malay dishes at this limited-time pop-up.
Let us reminisce whilst filling our bellies along the way.

The concept is simple. ‘Warisan Api’ literally translates to ‘Legacy of Fire’. He intends to use his years of experience and travel to recreate, revisit, and even elevate some traditional Malay dishes. That, and his penchant for flames, of course.

If I haven’t made it clear, Chef Mint loves fire. Which is why you should expect the smoky, sweet flavour of barbecue that envelops each dish. Dishes like the Ikan Bakar Set (S$14.00++) and Sotong Bakar Set ($12.00++) are particularly popular.

That delicate fish texture with a rich smoky aroma and sweet soy sauce, and a side of asam picit to round out the dish with acidity, is the definition of balance. You can customise each bite to cater to one flavour over another, should you wish.

The squid is bouncy with a slight chew, making each bite especially pleasant. And along with every dish come sides that are just as iconic in Malay cuisine. Asam Picit, as previously mentioned, udang kering (dried shrimp) and my personal favourite, kerisik (toasted grated coconut). Each component provides a different taste experience, making each bite exciting as well as unique.
While his return is truly exciting, it is unfortunately temporary. The Warisan Api pop-up is a 3-month affair from 1 Sep 2026 to 30 Nov 2026, so make the most of this chance to enjoy traditional Malay cuisine with a fiery chef behind the grill.
