Meat & Green-1

Located along Circular Road, Meat & Green is a small establishment known for its healthy salads and wraps, made with only the freshest ingredients. What’s special about this joint is the Singaporean spin applied on an otherwise Americanised version of street food.

Meat & Green-2

If you’re always pressed for time, rejoice! Meat & Green prepares your order super quick so you can literally get a meal on the go. With a refreshing local twist on their menu items, everything is served with fresh vegetables and piled with tender meat choices.

Although there are limited seating inside the shop itself, there are a few street tables out front as well. Should it get crowded during lunch hour, you can always choose to sit outdoors near the side walk or opt for a take-away, whichever is most convenient for you.

Upon carefully selecting the ingredients, the chef proceeds to pile them onto the wrap in a generous fashion.

Once the sauce is drizzled over, he rolls everything up neatly and slices the whole wrap in half for easy consumption.

Pulled Pork Bak Kut Teh Wrap ($12)

Wanting to sample the local favourites, we went with the Bak Kut Teh wrap which didn’t disappoint at all. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Bak Kut Teh but this made me change my mind. The pulled pork was tender and juicy at the same time, making it extremely tasty to chow down on.

Although the spicy marinade was far from the traditional pork bone tea base I was expecting, it was great nonetheless. The fresh greens nestled within the wrap, making it even more balanced and provided a nice overall crunch. Expect to find lettuce, peanuts, cucumbers and several carrot wedges.

Chicken Rice Wrap ($12)

Of course, we couldn’t resist trying the chicken rice wrap as well. As with the Bak Kut Teh wrap, the meat is pretty similar to the local dish; replicating the Hainanese chicken rice style, the chicken is poached before being dressed in chilli sauce with hints of ginger.

This is a great alternative to the popular chicken rice dish if you can do without the rice. Presented in a rather hefty roll with a decent amount of chicken cubes, it certainly makes for a healthy yet fulfilling lunch.

While delicious and satisfying, this might make for a messy eat as the wrap tends to fall apart when it unfolds upon each bite. But hey, I don’t mind getting my hands dirty as long as it tastes good.

Meat & Green-11

Chilli Crab and Fish salad ($13)

Instead of going for another wrap, we went with a salad to change things up. The chilli crab and fish salad was served in abundance and was truly one of the heartiest salads I’ve had in awhile. Give the seafood and vegetables a good toss and you will find that everything mixes nicely together.

I rather liked this combination so I might just head back to try the wrap version of this.

Meat & Green-12

Prepared by ridiculously friendly chef-owner Akhil, you can be rest assured that your wraps and salad bowls will be of a high quality. Not only does he greet customers with a smile but he also seems to remember his regulars.

If Akhil’s sincerity doesn’t win you over, I don’t know what will.

Meat & Green-13

All the menu items can be made into either a wrap or salad in a personalised fashion, depending on which takes your fancy. The local flavours are definitely something you don’t see every day from a salad/wrap bar.

Who says healthy food won’t make a tasty meal? Meat & Green has met both my requirements for sure.

Expected Damage: $12 – $14
