We all know how much Singaporeans love Korean bingsu, especially in this blazing hot weather. But hey, there’s gotta be other ways to cool off in this heat. Bingsu is so terribly passé and we’re desperately in need of a new Korean dessert worth queueing up for.

Cafe de Paris at 313@Somerset may have just the answer. The Parisian-inspired Korean dessert shop serves up enticing sweet fruit BonBons, and we couldn’t wait to try some of the eye-catching creations.

The dessert comes in six flavours, but of course one of our choices had to be the Mango Sweet BonBon ($17.80). We were told that three whole Thai mangoes go into this one cup! They’re definitely not cutting corners here, and I guess this sort of explains the price.

The stacked dessert is layered with whipped cream and topped with a generous dusting of powdered sugar.

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of regular whipped cream, so I was happy to find out that non-dairy whipped cream (imported from Korea!) is used in this dessert instead to give it a light and fluffy texture. As a result, you won’t get any greasy or artificial aftertaste and can enjoy the natural sweetness of the fruits.

As you work your way down, you’ll finally get a taste of the refreshing mango slushie resting at the bottom. This would be an absolute delight to have on a particularly warm day!

Perhaps you’re looking for a tart dessert instead to end off a heavy meal or even as a little midday pick-me-up. The Grape Sweet BonBon ($17.80) offers a unique flavour (and even better photo for Instagram).

At Cafe de Paris, they only serve you the best seasonal fruits to ensure a premium quality. These grapes have come a long way, having been imported from America. Now, that’s what we call sheer dedication to food.

Dig into the juicy plump grapes and trust me, you’ll notice the difference. Paired with the tangy slushie that’s prepared fresh daily, you’ll savour a whole new spectrum of flavours. A delightful surprise indeed.

We weren’t expecting to love a cupful of grapes this much but we can’t help raving about it. And since it’s served in quite a big cup, there’ll be loads to go around.

While you’re taking your time to enjoy this dessert, why not try one of the artisanal beverages on the menu?

The Green Tea Latte ($7) would be a great drink to have with the fruity BonBons. It might be a tad too light on its own but when you pair the milky matcha beverage with the piquant desserts, it’ll strike an impeccable balance.

$17.80 comes across as quite steep for a single dessert, but the attention to detail and premium quality warrants the price tag. These fancy treats are good for two to share, and even then, we were stuffed by the time we got to the end of it.

If you’re so over the bingsu craze, how about trying this one on for size?

Expected damage: $18 – $25 per pax/ two pax
