If you love a good brunch like me, PORTA at Park Hotel Clarke Quay offers a great menu. Headed by Chef Alex Phan, they’re well-known for putting Asian twists on their European dishes. They’ve just rolled out a range of new dishes which are available now!

One of the new appetisers which caught my eye was the Chicken And Egg (S$14++). This dish comes with a runny onsen egg which sits atop a light and refreshing slaw. There’re also succulent chunks of soya sauce-marinated chicken meat beneath.

Interestingly, the pinkish hue on the egg comes from a beetroot juice marinade. Chef Alex’s inspiration behind the dish apparently came from the causality dilemma of whether the chicken or egg came first. I’m guessing he couldn’t reach a conclusion, so he included them both!

Amongst their new mains, the Barramundi (S$24++) was my favourite. As Chef Alex is a staunch supporter of local produce, he actually sources his barramundis from Ah Hua Kelong. Therefore, I appreciated how the fish was moist, flaky and glistening on the inside.

Accompanying the fish were plump and juicy charred mussels. Although I’m not a fan of shellfishes in general, the ratatouille which the dish came with was a wonderful complement. Its tomato base had tangy and spicy notes which made the dish very palatable.

In addition to their new dishes, PORTA has also come up with an assortment of new desserts. It might be because I’m a huge chocolate lover, but I thought the Black Forest (S$14++) was something else.

The dark chocolate lava cake was satisfyingly oozy and rich. Its strong bitterness contrasted well against the decadent and juicy Maraschino cherries. The dessert even came with whipped coconut cream; quite a unique touch in my opinion!

Make sure you don’t give PORTA’s French Toast (S$16++) a miss also. This new dish is part of their brunch menu and was by far my favourite item.

The thick brioche bread was crispy and caramelised on the outside, yet in the middle, exceptionally butyraceous and dense. It also comes with rejuvenating summer berries and a luscious vanilla ice cream. I felt it could perfectly pass off as a main course or dessert.

Through these dishes, one can certainly tell that Chef Alex draws inspiration for his dishes from across the world. Yet, he has brilliantly transformed them in a way to bring about flavours which are familiar to our local palate.

With such affordable prices and hearty portions, PORTA is certainly the perfect place to pamper yourself!
