We know bubble tea hotpot is not a new thing; Spice World Hotpot got us all excited with their bubble tea hotpot a few months ago.

While Spice World Hotpot serves up their ‘sweet’ bubble tea broth alongside the well-loved mala broth, Galaxy Tea Bar in Penang is a little different. They’re definitely more of a dessert place than a full-fledged restaurant.

Their bubble tea hotpot is nothing quite like what you’ll expect. Instead of a savoury dish, you’ll get your sweet dessert served in a traditional steamboat pot where a flame is kept burning to keep your dessert warm.

We reckon each Bubble Tea Hotpot (RM29.90) is ideal to be shared between two or three, considering the large serving.

Each pot is filled with chewy tapioca pearls, taro balls, mango chunks, grass jelly, sago pearls and red beans.

Choose between either milk tea or fresh milk as your base and pour it into the pot before digging in. This inevitably reminds me of the popular Taiwan dessert stalls in Singapore like Nine Fresh or Blackball, but fancier.

If hot desserts are not your thing, you could always opt for the cold version which, instead of a flame, is served with dry ice fuming out from the centre of the pot for a bit of theatrics and mystique.

This relatively new café has gotten praises not just for their bubble tea hotpot, but also their series of drinks like their Brown Sugar Pearl Milk With Cream Mousse and Sweet Potatoes With Taro Milk.

While you can get your bubble tea hot pot fix locally, cafés in Georgetown like Galaxy Tea Bar are always worth a visit while you’re there!
