Many of us may be familiar with L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro, a well-known French restaurant that’s famous for its legendary entrecôte steak and unlimited fries. But you might not be aware that it just opened a new outlet at Customs House in April 2019.

L'entrecote 1111

This stunning new outlet overlooks the Marina Bay waterfront, so you’ll definitely get gorgeous views of the sweeping promenade while dining on its famed entrecôte steak, be it from its 42-seater indoor space or its 60-seater alfresco area.

Apart from its signature menu, the Customs House outlet also offers a new selection of hearty bar bites, such as Wagyu Beef Cubes (S$22+) and Deep-Fried Frog Legs (S$18++).

Just like its original Duxton Hill branch, L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro’s interior was beautifully classy, with vibrant red accents and floor-to-ceiling windows to allow natural light in.

The alfresco area lines the waterfront, with direct views of Marina Bay Sands.

We started off the night with Beef Tartare Toast (S$6++ per piece), which was served on thin slices of toasted baguette.

L'entrecote 1150

The beef tartare itself was soft and smooth, and I was impressed that it didn’t have any sour or pungent aftertaste. It was fresh and creamy, with a strong hint of black pepper and salt.

I later found out that L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro uses fleur de sel, one of the best and purest artisan salts around. It’s known as the caviar of salt because it’s harvested from the top of the French sea by hand, so its flavours are more delicate and light.

The beef tartare toast made for a great appetiser, especially when paired with a refreshing glass of white wine.

L'entrecote 1159

I’ve tasted L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro’s legendary entrecôte steak before, so I was definitely looking forward to its Wagyu Beef Cubes (S$22+), which came with a small pot of its golden L’Entrecôte sauce.

L'entrecote 1170

The beef cubes melted in my mouth in a glorious and buttery mess. I absolutely loved how the cubes were gently pan-fried to create that charred sheen, and how smoky and savoury it was as a result.

On the inside, the beef cubes were tender, juicy and succulent, and the legendary L’Entrecôte Sauce was the cherry on top of the cake. The flavours were complex but utterly delicious — it was buttery and savoury, with a tinge of acidic sourness at the end that lifted the flavours and made me want more.

We were told that the sauce has a secret recipe made of 53 ingredients. No wonder it’s so complex! I spent the rest of the evening trying to discover what ingredients were in the sauce, but to no avail.

L'entrecote 1177

When the Deep-Fried Frog Legs (S$18++) were served, I actually thought they were chicken wings! I was proven wrong when I bit into them — the meat came in smaller quantities but was softer, and the outer crust was delightfully crisp and buttery.

It was paired with a garlic and olive oil-based spread, which was piquant and rich.

L'entrecote 1193

The Wagyu Beef Cubes was my personal favourite dish of the night, and coming in a close second was the Porcini, Wild Mushrooms and Comte Tarte Flambée ($26++).

tarte flambée is a flatbread that originates from a couple of regions along the German-French border, such as Alsace. It’s a thin rectangular flatbread that resembles a pizza, but is thinner and baked till crispy.

L'entrecote 1201

I absolutely loved how earthy and fragrant the porcini and wild mushrooms were. They were pungent and rich, and the comte cheese added a sharp nuttiness to each bite.

The use of flatbread was especially interesting because it reminded me of cheese-topped wafers — thin, crumbly, but indulgent and creamy.

This dish was great for sharing and our group of six easily polished the entire board off.

When I think of L’Entrecôte The Steak & Fries Bistro, I think of its legendary entrecôte steak, which is paired with its decadent and golden sauce. However, with the addition of a bar and new bar bites, the bistro has now changed to become a place you and your friends can chill after work.

I can’t imagine a better way to end a workday — eating yummy bar bites with friends, sipping on a glass of chilled white wine, and admiring the sweeping views of the bayfront.
