In commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness month, homegrown wellness brand Breathe Essentials Co launches in the name of providing ongoing, year-round support and commitment to breast cancer awareness.

Helmed by cancer survivor Charlene Koh, who is also the co-founder of dating app Paktor, Breathe Essentials Co pledges to contribute ten per cent of its sales proceeds to the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF).

Breathe Essentials Co

Charlene was diagnosed with Stage One breast cancer in 2019 when she was only 35. After an arduous year of battling the disease, she is now cancer-free and is moving on to the next stage of her entrepreneurial career. Breathe Essentials was birthed out of Charlene’s interest in the area of aromatherapy as well as her desire to inspire others with her own personal experience.

Breathe Essentials sells a range of aromatherapy products including organic-certified essential oils and are extracted via a steam distillation process at a distillation plant located in the French Riviera.

The range will also include hand-poured coco soy candles, co-developed with a 200-year-old European fragrance house with one of the world’s strictest regulatory requirements to craft unique, uplifting scents for customers to enjoy in the comfort of their homes or offices.

We speak to Charlene for a quick rundown of the brand and her journey.

1. How would you describe Breathe Essentials Co to someone whom you’re meeting for the first time?

Breathe Essentials Co is a lifestyle wellness company that specialises in organic essentials oils, hand-poured coco soy candles, and creating essentials for everyone.

2. How has cancer and your battle against it inspired you to start the company?

My cancer journey was definitely not a walk in the park. I relied on essential oils to help me feel better, and cope with insomnia and hair growth. Through Breathe Essentials, I want to encourage and empower people who are in vulnerable and difficult positions which I once found myself in. In the toughest period of my cancer treatment, Aromatherapy and essential oils helped me greatly in coping mentally. I want to bring this solace to Singaporeans who can benefit through my brand.

3. What does success for Breathe Essentials Co look like in 5 years?

The dream for Breathe is to have its own lifestyle space where people can grab a coffee or just hang out; a place where people can come to sample our products, take part in our candle-making workshops or wellness workshops. But not just that, I want Breathe to be a brand that is known regionally for its causes and the products we create.
