Meji Lactose Free Milk 1

It’s 2020; there is no reason why people who are lactose intolerant can’t enjoy a tall glass of creamy milk without bolting to the bathroom. I do think science has come a long way. When Meiji surreptitiously placed their 200ml lactose-free milk on the shelves of supermarkets, they were not expecting the slew of Facebook comments demanding more.

Well, Meiji has heard our pleas and has done us proud. Not only have they introduced a bigger carton—all 946ml of it—but they’ve also come up with a Meiji Lactose Free Dark Chocolate Milk as well. And really, is there anything better than chocolate milk?

Yes, now you can drink all the milk you want without running to the bathroom five minutes later. For the sceptical few who have been burned by subpar lactose-free milk, we’ve put them both to the test to see if they measure up with regular dairy milk.

Meji Lactose Free Milk 2

We’ll start with the milk that caused such a flurry, the Meiji Lactose Free Milk (Original). If you’ve had the regular Meiji milk, you’ll know it for its creamy, slightly sweet flavour. It is, after all, the #1 milk in Japan and Singapore, so I do expect nothing less than perfection from this one.

This milk was no different; in fact, it tasted fresh and rich and was a little sweeter than regular milk. For those health fanatics, you’ll be pleased to know that this carton of milk is still chock-full of essential nutrients like calcium and vitamin B12.

These vital nutrients can sometimes run a little low in most plant-based milks, but Meiji you still get the full benefits while keeping your digestion intact.

I can never say no to chocolate milk, and Meiji never disappoints. Meiji Lactose Free Milk (Dark Chocolate) was thick, smooth and creamy. As a dark chocolate girl, you know I judge anything dark chocolate-flavoured pretty harshly, and I dare say Meiji Lactose Free Milk (Dark Chocolate) takes the cake.

Each sip was indulgent and decadent; this chocolate milk is the salve that will soothe as you binge-watch Netflix after a week at work. Not to mention, this chocolate milk is also trans fat-free, which is a double win.

To put Meiji’s new lactose-free range to the test, we decided to make a little dessert with their Original lactose-free milk. Nothing too fancy or complicated; just a simple Steamed Milk Pudding With Ginger.

A comforting but straightforward dessert that you can easily make at home with Meiji Lactose Free Milk. The milk pudding was smooth, sweet and fresh. The ginger helps to add a little mild spiciness that is equal parts interesting and tasty.

Plus, you won’t even notice that the milk used is lactose-free. That just speaks to Meiji’s top-notch quality milk that we have loved since the start.
