Did you spend an entire day bingeing every episode of Netflix’s latest Squid Game without taking a break? Me too. The Korean thriller series has taken the Internet by storm overnight, with thousands of fan theories and discussions taking place across various social media platforms.
And now, Brown Butter is offering you a chance to try your hand at the Honeycomb Challenge. Spoiler alert: your life won’t be at stake, even if you fail.
Brown Butter has created its own cards reminiscent of Squid Game’s very own. All you need to do upon finding one is to inform a member of their staff that you would like to try your hand at the Honeycomb Challenge.
You and your friend will be able to compete with each other, and against a timer, to separate either a heart, star, or circle shape from hardened pieces of honeycomb toffee. It’s made by melting sugar at a very precise temperature and mixing in a pinch of baking soda before it is dusted lightly with cornflour and stamped with shapes.
I’m not going to lie, the Honeycomb Challenge was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. And, I wasn’t even playing for my life like Gi-Hun, Ali, Sae-Byeok, and everyone else. One wrong move means that your shape is broken beyond repair, and being overly cautious means that you might run out of time.
Take your pick from any of the cards from a tray of pebbles and marbles. Do these remind you of Episode Six? No spoilers, don’t worry!
If you’ve undertaken the Honeycomb Challenge and managed to successfully separate your shape in two minutes, you stand a chance to win an iced latte or a slice of Brown Butter’s signature cheesecake.
Kudos to Brown Butter, especially with their Squid Game-inspired decor. I didn’t expect the pink bows on the coffins to fit in as perfectly as they did with Brown Butter’s interior. If you fail the Honeycomb Challenge, you have to pose in front of the coffin for a photo, so make sure you wield that toothpick with equal finesse and caution.
The Honeycomb Challenge will be available at Brown Butter starting 29 September 2021.
