Get ready to rice up to the occasion because Sake Matsuri Singapore has shifted from its previous UE Square venue to a brand new space. They’re setting up shop in the atrium of Singapore’s tallest building, Guoco Tower, and showcasing their largest-ever selection of sake for you to sample on April 1 and 2, 2023.

With travel and trade between Japan and Singapore back in full swing, they’ve got a bunch of sake-savvy brewers flying in to show off their goods, including Okinawa’s very own Awamori and a collaboration sake from Yaegaki brewery and Singapore’s favourite celeb chef Willin Low.

This festival is the ultimate showcase for Japanese craft sake, and they’re bringing out all the big guns with competition-winning sake, seasonal releases, and even some sake that’s never been available in Singapore. I mean, let’s be real, you can’t get much better than Junmai Daiginjo and Junmai Ginjo, which make up a mere 3% of total sake production in Japan. It’s like Singapore has an insatiable thirst for the good stuff, and Sake Matsuri is here to deliver!

For S$55 per person (or S$250 for a group of five), you’ll get three whole hours to taste as much sake as your heart desires. Plus, you’ll even get to take home your very own RIEDEL tasting glass! And if you need some grub to soak up all that sake, there will be plenty of food vendors, including Gyu San with their famous Wagyu fat-fried katsu sandos, and Wagatomo serving up some small bites.

Sake Matsuri Spring edition highlights

The upcoming Sake Matsuri Singapore edition is bringing in yet another record number of brewers from Japan – a record they always seem to break since previous editions. Among the sake highlights that these brewers will present are:

  • Yaesen Awamori from Yaesen Syuzo in Okinawa — this Awamori has been brewed and refined for over 65 years and is the cornerstone of Yaesen Syuzo. It has a strong, pleasant aroma that’s typical of Awamori, a well-balanced and sharp taste, and a deep sweetness from black malted rice and Ishigaki Island’s direct distillation.
  • Nichiei Alain Ducasse Selection from Kanazawa Nakamura Brewing in Ishikawa
    — This sake is made with Kamikohara, which is one of the rarest sake rice in Japan. It’s a brand of sake designed to complement the delicate dishes served in Alain Ducasse restaurants worldwide.
  • Frozen “Tono60” Special Junmai from Kamihei Shuzo in Iwate — a freshly pressed sake that’s flash-frozen using a unique technique to preserve its flavour. It’s typically only available for tasting at the brewery, but you can now enjoy this fresh and unpasteurized sake at home after thawing.
