If you’re a fan of bakery hopping like I am, this is going to come as a bit of a downer. The popular Madu The Bakery will be closing the doors to their Farrer Park shop come 2 Jun 2024, putting a number to the days you’ll get to savour their delicious bakes.

Madu The Bakery took to their social media page on 10 May to formally announce the slated cessation of their operations and express gratitude for their customers.

“We’re very thankful that you loved our creations as much as we loved seeing you smile,” the post reads. The team also said that it has been a joy to serve the community with their bakes, and to witness patrons enjoying them.

They beckoned customers to swing by for a final hurrah and concluded the post with a heartwarming “Come home to MADU”. I may have never been to the bakery, but even that got me feeling a little sentimental.

Madu’s closure comes after just over 2 years of operations at their shop along Race Course Road. Prior to the opening of their brick-and-mortar bakery in May 2022, the establishment started out as a home-based business in 2021.

The sheer number of dismayed reactions garnered by Madu’s farewell post serves as testament to the popularity they’ve amassed. I’m talking about a chain of comments that feature crying emojis.

Before they close for good on 2 Jun, be sure to swing by for a final fix of their creative bakes especially if you haven’t visited before.

When I told my colleague, Aaron, about Madu’s closure, he immediately talked about the Cereal Prawn Croissant (S$13.90) which he has been meaning to try. If you could only get one thing, let this be it. The glorious creation features plump and fresh Ah Hua Kelong tiger prawns blanketed in crunchy and well-seasoned cereal bits.

Some other must-tries would be their signature stuffed brioche buns, such as the mentaiko-loaded Mentaiko Bun (S$6.50), the umami-packed Umami Mushroom Bun (S$6), the earthy Nori Truffle (S$6.50) and the cheddar- and parmesan-filled Classic Garlic Bun (S$5.50), their delectable take on the popular garlic cheese buns. If you’re feeling undecided, get the whole selection in a Madu Bun Box Special (S$23)!

It’s safe to say that Madu The Bakery will be dearly missed by many. Do hurry on down for a final taste before they shut!
