Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre, home to more than a few notable hawker delights and the lunchtime haunt of many CBD workers, will be closed from 14 Oct 2024 to 14 Dec 2024 for maintenance and cleaning.
The closure comes as part of the Repairs and Redecoration (R&R) programme which is conducted every 6 to 8 years. Hawker centres undergoing works are typically closed for 2 to 3 months.
Stallholders are informed in advance, and granted rental remissions for the duration of the closure. In addition, they also receive waivers for service and conservancy charges. They can also opt for temporary relocation to other hawker centres during the closure, although this is subject to availability.
Some notable stalls at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre include Celebrities Big Prawn Noodle. It’s hard to miss it; the storefront is plastered with photographs of the proprietor, David Cai, with his celebrity friends. The celebrity endorsements aren’t just for show, though – the long snaking queues during lunchtime are a testament to the quality of the food.
Another popular stall is SL II Muffin, a brand with several outlets in other locations such as Chinatown, Tampines and Bukit Timah. Their soft and pillowy muffins were a childhood treat of mine and I always had trouble stopping at just one.
