What’s your favourite Korean food? Perhaps it’s bulgogi or pajeon (Korean savoury pancakes). Or maybe you love ganjang gejang (soy-marinated raw crab) or ganjang saewoo (soy-marinated raw prawn)? I’m a total sucker for the last two. At JANCHI, the latest concept from MarketBlue, you can indulge in all of those.

janchi - exteriorjanchi - interior

The name comes from the Korean word  “잔치” (janchi) meaning a “feast” or a “party”, and all the dishes here are perfect for that.

Located at 4 Craig Road, this beautiful and intimate space exudes cosiness and warmth. It’s perfect for after-work gatherings, or just catching up with friends. The menu is full of items that are perfect for sharing, with a separate section for lunch specials that feature favourites like Bulgogi Stone Bibimbap (S$20.90)

janchi - boiled pork set

There are also sets such as the Seafood Soft Tofu Stew Set Meal (S$18), and Boiled Pork Set Meal (S$17.90). Each set meal comes with white rice and 4 different banchan.

raw seafood

One of the highlights at JANCHI is this enormous Marinated Raw Seafood Platter (S$99.90 for 2 pax, S$179.90 for 3-4 pax). The platter is a seafood lover’s dream come true – there’s crab, prawn, abalone, salmon and octopus, all soaked in a savoury soy sauce and full of flavour.

bulgogi mountain

Yet another behemoth of a platter is the aptly named Seoul Bulgogi Mountain Set (S$59.90 for medium, S$79.90 for large). It’s a huge tower of beef slices with an equally heaping portion of beansprouts. A clear broth is poured over the mountain and then left to simmer over a portable stove. A savoury bulgogi sauce is provided for you to dip the simmered beef in. This dish is extremely comforting and a certified “rice thief”.

In case you want even more meat, you can also add on an extra serving for S$28.90.

janchi - pancake

Cheese and potato are a match made in heaven. (Let’s face it, cheese goes with many, many things.) The Cheese Potato Pancake (S$19.90) is a crispy and cheesy affair that has some impressive cheese pull and is a definite crowd-pleaser. Don’t forget to use the dipping sauce to take this to the next level.

janchi - makgeolli

There’s also a selection of Makgeolli (S$27.90), which is served in a large pitcher and available in Original, Strawberry and Banana. The Strawberry Makgeolli is filled with fresh strawberries and strawberry puree, giving it a vibrant pink hue.

If all of these look good to you, why not make JANCHI your next get-together venue?
