Opened in 2006, Golden Village VivoCity is the largest cinema complex in the country. It houses a variety of theatres. One of these is GVmax, a stadium-style auditorium with 602 seats and one of the widest screens in Asia. It is the first cinema in Southeast Asia to have the 64.2 channel Dolby Atmos sound system.

Shaw Theatres Lido is known for having Singapore’s first IMAX Digital Theatre System.

IMAX is a theatre system that uses large screens, special cameras, and sound systems to create an immersive experience. Since its introduction in 2011, the theatre’s IMAX has been equipped with a next-generation laser projection and a 12-channel sound system.

When it opened in 2019, Shaw Theatres Jewel had several new offerings for movie-goers. These included Singapore’s first next-generation IMAX hall featuring IMAX with Laser, Singapore’s first dedicated family hall (Dreamers), Singapore’s first DTS:X sound-compatible halls (chosen halls) and a new exclusive premium movie-going hall (Lumiere).

If you are looking for a different movie-watching experience than the typical commercial cinema, The Projector at Golden Mile Tower is the best cinema in Singapore for you.

It stands out as an independent cinema showcasing a pick of indie and foreign films. Past films aired there include the coming-of-age melodrama Rebel Without a Cause (1955), the science fiction horror movie The Thing (1982) and the comedy-drama Age of Panic (2013).

It is an annual film screening event held at the Fort Canning Green, a historic landmark overlooking the city skyline. The 2024 event from 1 to 18 Aug aired popular films including the American romantic sports drama film Challengers, the biographical drama musical film Bob Marley: One Love and the action comedy film The Fall Guy.
