While the location of the hospital has been kept private, it is reported that the owner of the popular wanton noodle stall has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The stroke seems to have occurred around 12 Mar, after which his daughter Erin updated their Facebook page to announce their temporary halt of operations. According to an updated post from 13 Mar, the stall may be on a break for the next few months.

Soon Kee Wanton Mee’s boss had cooked two pots of its customer-favourite sambal for the stall before his stroke. The chilli had meant to last the stall the following week but was left untouched after he was hospitalised.

Because of this, Erin reached out to their followers on social media to help clear their ingredient stocks. “I really don’t want his effort to go to waste,” she wrote. Please help to clear [the stock] if you can. We’re still left with about 40 containers of chilli.” Each 600g tub of sambal was priced at S$30, and she also offered wantons for S$20 per box of 60.

With the help of the interested takers, Erin succeeded in selling out the leftover items within two days. “Thank you all! I truly appreciate your kindness and support,” she wrote in response to the buyers.

The wanton noodle stall which was established in 1975 grew to be well-loved among the food centre’s regulars due to its powerful chilli. Its dumplings are also very popular as they contain water chestnuts which give the meat an added crunch that most do not possess.

Wishing Soon Kee Wanton Mee’s boss and Erin all the best for his recovery!
