Heritage often defines food, and what defines heritage better than how it lives on? Singapore Teochew Bak Kut Teh is located in Sims Vista Market & Food Centre and carries on the lasting legacy of Singapore’s so-called grandfather of bak kut teh.

This humble stall is helmed by Jason HY Lin, the nephew of the legendary Lau Ah Tee of Lau Ah Tee Bak Kut Teh! It opened on 11 Aug 2025, exactly 60 years after the first bowl of Clear Broth Bak Kut Teh in Singapore was served by Ng Mui Song, the owner’s maternal grandfather.

Patrons describe the taste of their signature Bak Kut Teh broth as warm and light, with the perfect balance of pepper and richness without an oily undertone. It’s quite subtle, which differentiates it from Lau Ah Tee’s bolder broth and Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh’s spicy broth.

They pride themselves on using only the freshest of pork ribs, too. Their Fresh Pork Ribs (S$6.50) are so tender that they slip right off the bone.

Another fan favourite is the stall’s braised Pig Trotters (S$7), which melt in your mouth the moment you bite down on them. The Mei Cai ($2) has a wonderful combination of sweet and salty flavours packed into a single crunch.

Don’t skip out on their Mee Sua (S$5) either. It’s savoury and aromatic, with hints of garlic from the cloves infused into the soup, but without that characteristic offal smell. Comfort food personified.

Give Singapore Teochew Bak Kut Teh a try if you’re in the area. You’re not only sipping a quality bak kut teh, but drinking a broth that defines part of Singapore’s culinary history.
