Ren Faire SG: The Origin is taking place on 31 Jan & 1 Feb at Fort Canning Park. This large-scale Renaissance fair is the first of its kind in Singapore and will transport visitors to a fantasy realm of medieval costumes, swords and magic.

For the uninitiated, a Renaissance fair is a themed outdoor festival that first gained popularity in North America and Europe. This unique experience invites fairgoers not just to visit but to be part of that world, which usually is a medieval setting.

And this is no different for Ren Faire SG. While you can choose to attend the event dressed in your usual fit (ahem, Uniqlo top for guys?), you are highly encouraged to come decked in fantasy garb and costumes that look straight out of a ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie.

Though Renaissance fairs usually have a more ‘western’ and medieval aesthetic, costumes with Asian influences and basically any fantasy-style attire are also welcome. If you’d like some inspiration, check out this Instagram post by Ren Faire SG’s organisers.

Before you travel to this fair set in the world of Xenaria, you might be wondering what you would do there. This is definitely not a cosplay contest or a medieval exhibition. To start, you will find a marketplace with more than 100 merchants, offering tasty food & beverages, handcrafted accessories, and gift-worthy trinkets

There are also entertaining activities for every type of adventurer. If you want to just immerse yourself in the fantasy, you can watch live music performances and sword fight demonstrations or interact with characters on the fairground.

If you want to have a bit of fun, you can take on quests like clue hunts or sit down for games of Dungeons & Dragons. Or you can simply get into your own character and do some live action role-playing (LARP). Adults, children and pets are all welcome to the Origin.

Entry to Ren Faire SG costs S$11, granting you access to all activities within the fair, as well as the Market Stamp Rally for special rewards and a Faire Map souvenir. To find more info on Ren Faire SG and to book your tickets, visit their website.
