Dig Into ARTEA’s New Tiramisu Dessert Menu Now Available At VivoCity

Never quite the hype in many years but nevertheless an indulgent and delightful dessert, tiramisu is making its way back with ARTEA‘s modern renditions on their new dessert menu.

ARTEA Tiramisu

Serving tiramisu in a dessert cup is not uncommon, but ARTEA has pushed it further by serving each tiramisu in a marbled cardboard box. Placed on a golden tray and eaten with a golden spoon, ARTEA is definitely not skimping out on fanciness.

Quite unsurprisingly, Brown Sugar Bubble Tiramisu (S$8.80) was on the menu. The mascarpone cheese had a rather airy texture and a light caramel flavour of brown sugar. The chewy brown sugar jelly topping the tiramisu was embedded throughout the layers, making sure there is just about one in every spoonful.

The bitterness of matcha dominated the Matcha Tiramisu (S$11.80), masking any semblance of sweetness in the dessert. While I feel that matcha-lovers would truly enjoy this dessert, I wouldn’t call it a tiramisu without the espresso flavour coming through.

Pit against other traditional tiramisus, I didn’t particularly enjoy their Original Tiramisu (S$8.80). The well-soaked espresso finger sponges didn’t quite make up for the lack of richness in the cream and absence of alcohol in the dessert. That said, I’m sure some would enjoy this lighter version after a heavy meal.

Their Strawberry Tiramisu (S$10.80) settled the best for me — a delicate and refreshing version of the original. Again, the cream layer was a tad bit too airy, leaning more towards a mousse rather than retaining the creaminess of mascarpone cheese. Much like a strawberry shortcake as opposed to tiramisu, the sour zing of the strawberries complemented the milder cream.

We noticed that unlike traditional ones, there weren’t distinct layers to their tiramisu. Instead, bits of sponge fingers sat somewhere in the middle and the base of the cup, covered by a thick layer of cream. It was a little frustrating how the box covers the actual dessert cup since we couldn’t see what we were digging into; some mouthfuls only had cream.

Tiramisus have always been an indulgent dessert for me, hence the denser and creamier versions. While the tiramisus at ARTEA didn’t quite make the cut for me, they still make a good choice for those who prefer lighter after-meal desserts. No sugar options for the tiramisus are available too, catered for those opting for lower sugar intake meals.
