The travellers amongst us may have heard of BAO, the popular London restaurant. The chain is opening a Taiwanese convenience store pop-up called BAO Fast Foods (BFF) at New Bahru on Kim Yam Road.
Inspired by Taiwanese convenience stores, the pop-up will be open from 11 Nov to 28 Dec 2026. Some of you might also be familiar with the very popular Taiwanese Fried Chicken, popular at many convenience stores in Taiwan. If you’re the type to explore every new spot, add BFF to your list.

BAO Fast Foods becomes the newest addition to the notoriously difficult Singapore food scene. This pop-up will act as a test for whether they will open a permanent spot sometime in 2027.
Asian convenience stores are the place for a decent bite at a very good price, and this pop-up gives you a more niche example. Unlike most convenience stores, they also serve proper hot meals prepared fresh daily.

Of course, expect some regional snacks made in Taiwan, as well as some local and homemade brands. You could also grab the quintessential convenience store sandwiches. I personally like to combine an egg mayo sandwich with a fried chicken cutlet, and I hope to find that at BAO Fast Foods.
BAO Fast Foods was started by 3 people: married couple Shing Tat Chung and Erchen Chang, along with Chung’s sister, Wai Ting. They began with a stall at London’s Netil Market. They now run up to 7 outlets in the city. With their great success in London, it will be exciting to see them try their luck in Singapore.

The trio had a similar pop-up in Taipei in June 2026. It reportedly drew people obsessed with convenience stores as well as people hungry for the taste of Taiwan.

There are several ways to get to New Bahru once they open. The closest MRT is Fort Canning, a 13-minute walk away. The closest bus stop to New Bahru is called Before Kim Yam Road , and it’s just a 6-minute walk from there.
Chung has said that the aim is to spread Taiwanese culture because the world lacks Taiwanese representation. And I agree. Hopefully this BAO Fast Foods pop-up succeeds, which could lead to much more Taiwanese food across Singapore. But no pressure, one step at a time.
