Picture yourself on a holiday in the tropics, listening to the waves wash up on the shore, with an icy smoothie in hand.
That’s exactly what you’ll feel like at Beriwell. This new acai joint located along the picturesque shophouses of Katong will stop any passerby in their tracks.
You can’t help but take a second look at this well-decorated establishment that boasts a tropical theme. I was absolutely in love with the aesthetics from the very moment I set foot in the store.
Beriwell serves up a fancy repertoire of dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan options with drinks that use acai berries. You’ll get to choose from a range of Superswirls and Smoothies.
Here’s what we got to satisfy our acai cravings.
We went for a Large Original Açaí Superswirl ($9.90) with Kiwi, Mango, Strawberry and Granola as toppings. The Superswirl actually refers to the use of soft serve, and of course, it’s made using acai berries.
I was instantly swayed from the first mouthful. In contrast to regular acai bowls, this soft serve had a fluffier texture. The familiar icy crunch was replaced by a creamy concoction with intense acai flavours.
The bite-sized, fruity toppings also did a great job in enhancing the distinct flavours of the acai berries.
For those who aren’t aware of what acai tastes like, it’s a tarty mix of berries with a tinge of a chocolatey aftertaste. First-timers would probably find it rather peculiar yet delectable on the palate.
If you’d prefer something more refreshing and lighter on the taste buds, why not get the best of both worlds with The Twist ($9.90) in Large?
We had ours with Manuka honey peanuts, blueberries, strawberries, bananas and a generous portion of chia seeds from the premium toppings selection (+$0.80).
The Twist is a mixture of Beriwell’s signature Açaí with Coco Majik. Coco Majik is made from young Thai coconuts and Spirulina which gives the dessert its au natural pale blue shade. Spirulina is also rich in vitamins and proteins, so talk about a healthy dessert that looks good as well!
While some may find the acai flavour a tad overpowering, the Coco Majik soft serve adds an invigorating punch that balances out the malty taste.
Toppings-wise, just look at that huge serving of chia seeds! Known as the vegan’s source of protein, this is definitely something to try.
There’s a jelly-like texture on the outer layer of the chia seeds and finally a crunch when you get to the core. If you find the tapioca pearls in bubble tea addictive, I’d call chia seeds the “pearls” of this acai soft serve.
I don’t know anyone who would say no to soft serve, but if it doesn’t tickle your fancy, opt for one of Beriwell’s smoothies instead.
We were loving this smoothie take on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich – a 12oz cup of PB&J ($7.40). You’ll get a delightful blend of bananas, peanut butter, almond milk & Maca topped with mixed berries and Medjool dates.
Give the smoothie a good mix before you slurp away at this cup of natural goodness. The thick and creamy slush tastes just like peanut butter infused with the aromatic scent of bananas. The berries and dates added a dash of zest that kept us coming back for sip after sip.
Fitspos out there, if you’re looking for a healthier alternative to your pre-workout or post workout protein shakes, you’ll be glad to know that Beriwell even offers protein add-ons. Eating clean and staying fit has never been easier!
While you’re digging into these healthy sweet treats, you might want to stage your mini Instagram photoshoot there as well – the space is truly Insta-worthy!
The acai soft serve was a first for me but I can proudly claim that I’m officially a fan now. I mean, a healthier version of soft serve? YES PLEASE.
If you need somewhere to cool off on a hot afternoon in Katong, swing by Beriwell and you won’t be disappointed.
