Going vegan is a popular choice for quite a number of Singaporeans. If you want to enjoy a meat alternative, Beyond Burger is a great option to start with!

Beyond Meat has launched their first Beyond Burger in Southeast Asia at Grand Hyatt on 16 August 2018. We went down with an open mind to experience this plant-based patty that tastes, sizzles and bleeds like real beef patties.

The launch was coupled with a food truck experience along Grand Hyatt’s driveway, selling each burger for S$10 nett. Fret not if you missed the launch, Beyond Burger will be available at Mezza9 in Grand Hyatt, from 20 August 2018.

When we arrived, there was a line formed along the driveway. We joined the crowd, eager to try both version of the 100% plant-based burger.

The Classic Cheese Burger came with a brioche bun, the Beyond Burger patty and the usual pickles, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, mustard, complete with vegan cheese and mayo.

I was pleasantly surprised by my first bite; the patty really had a texture similar to beef and it tasted like real meat! The vegan cheese and mayo also enhanced the flavour of the well-seasoned patty, without overwhelming the palate.

On the other hand, the Modern Asian Burger was refreshing. The patty was sandwiched between corn buns, and paired with Asian slaw, avocado, furikake, pickled daikon and ginger, with Sriracha and wasabi mayo. The Asian slaw added an acidic kick, which might appeal to the local crowd.

An ideal dinner would be fresh sashimi and a slice (or two) of cheesy pizza.
