New in town: Ember Charcoal Grill – Alfresco dining & creme brulee waffles

Ember Charcoal Grill is located in Ang Mo Kio and their soft launch was on 4 June 2022. They’ve replaced Workbench bistro which used to be the old tenants at this spot. Like the name suggests, this cafe specialises in using binchotan charcoal which is prized by chefs around the world.

Located below a HDB void deck, Ember Charcoal Grill has added some personality to the cafe with alfresco dining. With no signboard up yet, I’m sure curious passersby would peek at the glass windows wondering what this place has to offer.

The cafe’s menu is anything but dull. With interesting starters like Charred Bourbon Chicken Wings (S$9.90) and White Venus Clams (S$8.90) that’s slathered in laksa broth, my interest has already piqued. Let’s take a look at a few signature dishes that they have.

Silverfern Sirloin Bavette (S$23.90)— A grass-fed flank cut steak that’s grilled using charcoal, served with shoestring fries, vine tomato, confit garlic and choice of sauce. Ember Charcoal Grill’s choice of sauces are different from the usual— Sarawak black pepper sauce, Jim Beam honey mustard, miso and kombu butter, bordelaise and foyot ( a combination of bearnaise sauce and meat glaze).

Basque Style Grilled Whole 700g Seabass (S$29.90)— Meant to be shared by two, the seabass is marinated with basque spice and charcoal grilled, served with piperade (stew made of capsicums, onions, garlic and paprika).

Creme Brulee Waffle (S$15.90)— I love waffles as well as creme brulee, so combining them blows my mind away! It’s served with a burnt banana and summer fruits.

Ember Charcoal Grill also offers artisanal croffles, hearty donburis, ice cream, and a range of coffee and tea beverages. They’re launching a scrumptious brunch menu that’s only available on weekends and public holidays from 10am to 5pm.

I’d definitely be adding this cafe to my list and indulging in a creme brulee waffle by myself— can’t wait!
