Following the success of Woon Woon Pek Beehoon, Fresh Generation follows under the same management and opened its doors in March 2017.
Located at the Bukit Timah Hawker Centre, the store is only three mins walk from Beauty World MRT, and its sole purpose is making fresh seafood affordable.
Signature Seafood Platter($28) with an additional lobster ($22).
Filled with lobsters, crayfishes, prawns, clams, fish slices and sotong balls, I was already salivating at the sight of it. While it looks fairly normal in size, but I’ll assure you that it is a HUGE bowl that will warrant glances from passersby. We even had people asking us where we got this dish from.
Each bowl is cooked upon order, do note that the intensity of the broth’s sweetness will differ. The more seafood in the dish, the sweeter it will be; you get the drift.
The lobster was succulent and remained springy with each bite. I had no qualms polishing it clean, leaving no meat intact to its shell.
You’ll know that the crayfish is fresh when the meat comes off easily with just a light pull with the chopsticks. I personally like this better than the lobster though it’s obviously tinier, but its mild and slightly sweet taste was perfect for my palate.
The prawns were firm and well-cooked, exactly how it should be without the sandy texture that I detest.
The clams add pockets of sweet and chewy contrast in between mouthfuls of the dish, which were a welcoming addition to the noodles when alternating between indulging in the other richer seafood.
Sotong balls are also added into the dish, but I thought that it would have been better if it was an entire sotong instead of the processed balls.
You’ll have the options to choose between rice or noodles at an additional charge of $0.50 per bowl. Our noodles were slightly overcooked and was a tad soft as we left it in the soup for awhile before slurping it up.
A word of advice: If you are opting to have noodles, finish them quickly or request it to be served separately in another bowl to prevent them from getting soggy.
The broth is thick and rich, which will leave you wanting one sip after another. Now, I know where to find a warm hearty bowl of soup to have on a cold rainy day.
The recommended serving size is for three, but we (two hungry girls) finished it very quickly. And I’m pretty sure I could have one bowl to myself because it was just too delicious.
Apart from the Signature Seafood Platter, Fresh Generation have other affordable bowls including Crayfish Seafood Soup($10), Scallop Seafood Soup($10) and more. For the amount of seafood you’re getting, it is definitely worth the price.
Expected Damage: $6 – $10 per person
