“No-frills, just fun”
[email protected] is the flagship of Hangout Hotels, the hospitality arm of Cathay Organisation. They have recently reopened after a $2 million makeover to rejuvenate its design and amenities. This year marks [email protected]’s 10th anniversary.
[email protected] is not a 5 star hotel, but rather a no frills one. Definitely still offers a safe, cosy environment with clean, fully air-conditioned rooms and en-suite bathrooms at rates that are reasonably within budget. They meet the demands of business travellers who want fuss-free accommodation on cost-saving business trips, and globe-trekkers who want to hang out and meet fellow travellers.
Hangout @mt.emily is a 7-storey building that is close enough to the action of the city, yet away from all that hustle and bustle, just walking distance from Prinsep street. It is really a peaceful environment at night, and you could take a stroll through Mt. Emily Park that is right outside the hotel. This is what you can expect at Hangout @mt.emily.
We were given a Double Room with austere furnishings.
The interior is minimal – just basic white-washed walls, with elements of green. It is spacious enough for two, and most importantly the bed is really soft and comfortable- no worries about not getting a good night’s sleep. However, no toiletries are provided in the bathrooms and you will have to bring your own. Other than private rooms, they also provide Zonk Out Shared Rooms which is basically shared dormitories for those on a tighter budget. All rooms are provided with free WIFI and complimentary breakfast. Breakfast is at Wild Rocket restaurant at the first floor (which turns into a full service restaurant by lunch).
Nothing fancy here for breakfast, just decent toasts, eggs and some Singaporean dishes. I would rather walk two streets down to Selegie Road and have a good ol’ local breakfast Tau Huey and You Tiao though. On the second floor are some of the facilities cleverly named after the hotel. There is a twenty four hours Veg Out Lounge, which is the best place to chill, watch television and get to mingle with the other travelers.
They have a pantry just beside the lounge area as well, serving coffee, hot water and a microwave.
Hangout @mt.emily also has a small corner called Log Out which, speaks for itself.
They also have a cozy corner where guests can sit and read from a mini library of books and travel magazines.

Also on the second floor, is a 24 hour token-operated laundromat for you to wash your laundry. They have basic cleaning and ironing facilities too.
Moving on to the top floor is a Look Out Terrace with a gorgeous view of Singapore’s skyline.
Bask in the sun on the deck chairs, or engage in some star-gazing with fellow travellers at night. The terrace looks enthralling at night – fixtures covered in fairy lights plus a lovely night breeze. They also have a lovely standing shower pool that you could dip your feet in.
What I appreciate most about [email protected] hotel are the comfortable cushy bed, high-speed WIFI, and of course their service-oriented staff. Be it budget, be it no-frills, the impeccable service gives a finishing touch in providing the guests a safe home away from home. Hotel check-in timing is after 3pm and their late check-out timing is at 12pm. They provide lockers and have a baggage room to store your luggage for free.
