Walked past colonial buildings in Singapore and wondered how they came to be? Discover the answer at the Singapore HeritageFest 2024, from 1 to 26 May 2024. Organised by the National Heritage Board (NHB), this year’s edition celebrates our nation’s built heritage.

The Singapore HeritageFest 2024 also has the most number of programs post-COVID (more than 120!), with many partners coming together to hold various programs. These include visits to old buildings and sites that are not usually accessible to the public.

Just a heads-up: you’ll have to fork out a ticket fee for selected tours or exhibitions.

Can a speech change a nation?

Find out from Yit Chin Chuan, Assistant Director of the National Archives of Singapore (NAS) at the Archives Unlocked: Speeches that Changed Singapore talk on 23 May.

Mr Yit will walk you through 4 speeches, each by a different pioneer of Singapore. The four leaders are Goh Keng Swee, S. Rajaratnam, Othman Wok and Kenneth M. Byrne.

Mr Yit, who worked as a librarian for 20 years before moving on to his current role in NAS, will explain what each of the pioneers said and the impacts of their speeches.

Admission is free, although you’ll have to register for the event.

Embark on the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus experience at the Singapore HeritageFest 2024 to explore the built heritage of 4 local precincts.

As the festival draws to an end, join in the tour for a fascinating exploration of the Bras Basah-Bugis District and Civic District during the Singapore HeritageFest 2024’s final weekend.

Delve into the architectural wonders and cultural landmarks that define these dynamic areas, concluding the festival with a deeper appreciation for Singapore’s rich built heritage.

You’ll have to register for the tour before buying tickets. They are available as single tickets (S$10), pair tickets (S$18) and tickets for 4 (S$32).

Brought to you by NHB’s Heritage Activation Nodes (HAN) Heritage Champions, take a trip down memory lane through exploring the architectural marvels of Katong-Joo Chiat.

Hear the stories behind historic architectural gems, such as the Peranakan shophouses along Koon Seng Road, the Red House Bakery, and the Former Joo Chiat Police Station.

Remember to bring an entrance fee ($5/person) after registering for the event.
