If you frequent Haji Lane, you’ve probably come across I am…’s flagship outlet before. Well, there’s good news for Easties because they have recently opened a second outlet at Our Tampines Hub, as part of HomeTeamNS.
Located on level 3, the cafe continues to serve a line-up of delicious Western cuisine including sizeable burgers, pastas and pizzas.
Designed by the creative team behind the cafe, the interior is very much inspired by the city of Amsterdam, as seen by the choice of wallpaper. Unlike its Haji Lane outlet, this one is fully air-conditioned and much more spacious.
For starters, we had the Cheese Bread ($8.90), baked similarly to those from Brazil. Made from parmesan cheese, each piece of bread boasts a chewy texture that was simply delicious. This was hands down one of the most addictive appetisers I’ve had.
In every hipster cafe, Truffle Fries ($10.90) are a must-have. Seasoned perfectly with salt, the shoestring fries are topped with truffle oil and grated parmigiano. They were certainly generous in the truffle department too!
Sandwiched with matcha buns, the Charcoal-grilled “The Quest” Burger ($18.90) was indeed a novelty item. As with all the burgers on their menu, the beef patties are marinated with seven different herbs before being charcoal-grilled to ensure a juicy consistency throughout. The patty itself was evidently tender and had a nice smokey taste, courtesy of the charcoal.
With turkey bacon, a delicious avocado spread, BBQ sauce and truffle mayonnaise smeared over it, this was truly the best burger combination I could hope for. Not forgetting, the thick-cut fries with a crispy layer of skin that came with it, as well.
Known for the massive burgers, I found that it was nearly impossible to chomp down on the burger in a single mouthful. That being said, I’m glad I had to take the burger apart to sample the condiments because I could taste the matcha powder infused within the buns better when it wasn’t overpowered by the sauces.
Beautifully plated, the Squid Ink Pasta ($18.90) came with a silky black hue from the squid ink and a mound of fresh alfalfa garnished on top.
Aptly chosen, the pasta of choice was the squid ink Tonnarelli that was cleverly paired with an oriental sauce. Mix the sauce around and you will find that the spiciness complements both the pasta and fresh squid rings fairly well.
To end of the meal, we had the Virgin Lychee Mojito ($6.90) that was just one of the many signature mocktails available on the menu. Crafted by their very own barista, the drink was refreshing and a real thirst quencher. I particularly enjoyed the lychee flavouring as it paired very nicely with the hint of lime and mint leaves.
To cater to customers’ needs, I am… utilises a self-ordering system called “Waitrr”. Through this mobile app, diners are able to browse the menu and order just by scanning the QR code. The best part is, you can split your tab between your friends without having to worry about who pays first.
Set within a comfortable 50-seater space, I am… at Our Tampines Hub is certainly a great place to go for group gatherings whether it is with friends, or family members. Do take note that the dishes here are exclusive to this outlet only, so definitely stop by to get your fix if you’re in the East.
