Japan’s I’m donut? is bringing its famously fluffy nama donuts to Malaysia, opening its first KL outlet at The Exchange TRX on 12 Sep 2026.

For fans who have been eyeing the brand’s minimalist donut boxes online, this marks the first chance to try I’m donut? locally without travelling to Japan, Seoul, or New York. The brand has built a following across these cities for its take on nama donuts, known for their soft, airy texture and slightly crispy exterior.

Founded by chef-owner Ryota Hirako in 2022, I’m donut? uses a brioche-style dough made with a proprietary flour blend and Japanese kabocha pumpkin. The dough is carefully prepared and fried to create its signature texture, resulting in donuts that are light, fluffy, and delicate.
Even the name reflects the brand’s playful approach. With such an unconventional texture, the question is simple: “Am I a donut?” The answer might be obvious, but the question mark has become part of the brand’s identity, appearing across its packaging and visual materials.

At the Malaysia outlet, customers can look forward to a selection of nama donuts and cream-filled creations. This features the Original with custard, Pistachio Cream made with pistachio paste and fresh cream, a Nama French Cruller finished with icing sugar, and a Cacao donut topped with cacao nibs.
There will also be options beyond the sweeter side of the menu. Across its international outlets, I’m donut? has introduced savoury creations featuring ingredients such as teriyaki egg, keema curry, and prosciutto, alongside glazed donuts used as sandwich-style bases.

Another interesting part of the brand’s expansion is its market-specific exclusive flavours. Seoul has seen creations inspired by local ingredients and dishes, while New York has experimented with combinations including peanut butter cream and grape jelly.
With Malaysia now joining the lineup, it remains to be seen if I’m donut? KL outlet will introduce any flavours inspired by local tastes. Pandan or gula Melaka, perhaps? We’ll find out when doors open.
