New in town: LaGula by The Hungry Tapir in KL is home to vegan bakes, meatless brunch & colourful cocktails

Let’s be real, following a vegan diet in Kuala Lumpur can be tough. We’re a society of meat lovers and put-cheese-on-everything-ers. Sure, there are restaurants with vegetarian dishes, but the options are usually very limited. And don’t get me started on the dessert options.

Good news— plant-based eaters can now partake in weekend brunch festivities at an eatery with a menu fully catered to their diet. The Hungry Tapir has finally launched their vegan brekkie bar, LaGula by The Hungry Tapir! Located at Four Points by Sheraton, LaGula is here to satisfy your sweet tooth.

This spot is probably one of the cutest bakeries you’ll ever walk into. Embracing the bare brick wall style and rattan light fixtures, the store is in pink. Pink ceilings, pink stools, pink tables— this is what dreams (or aesthetically pleasing Instagram feeds) are made of.

They offer an array of vegan pastries such as Pain au Chocolat (RM16) and Almond Croissants (RM16), as well as macarons and cakes of different flavours that change weekly. You can even get whole sourdough and baguette loaves to bring home.

The eatery offers several dishes too, like the LaGula Biiig Brekkie (RM35), their version of a big breakfast that comes with homemade smoky chickpea sausage, scrambled tofu, and homemade ricotta cheez. They also have ‘Valmon’ & Cream Cheez Croissant (RM25) that’s made of cured carrot slices and vegan cheese, and Scrambles ‘Pastrami’ Croissant (RM22), which includes a black bean and soy brisket and scrambled tofu.

As LaGula calls themselves a brekkie bar, check out their cocktails while you’re there. Their drinks have the cutest names that match the bakery’s vibe, like Flower Power (RM40), Violet Ray (RM36), and Strawberry Fields (RM45).

If you’re vegan or vegetarian, or just curious about plant-based cuisine, drop by LaGula by The Hungry Tapir for a meatless meal that checks all the boxes!
