It’s hard not to feel the pinch amidst price hikes at eateries, especially given the recent GST increase. If you’re struggling with the search for value-for-money food options, 李姐的店 (Li Jie De Dian) might very well be your new favourite haunt.

Nestled underneath an HDB block in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, the humble cafeteria serves up an array of economical menu items, with free drinks and mains as affordable as S$1.20. They also give out 200 pieces of free Chwee Kueh to seniors on Wednesdays.

Decked in mellow turquoise and white, the cafeteria’s ambience appears welcoming and as homely as its fare. That fare ranges from comforting bowls of noodle soup to local favourites, all reasonably priced.

Most notably, its selection of Economic Bee Hoon screams value-for-money – a plate of Plain Bee Hoon (no toppings) is priced at S$1.20, while its counterparts with toppings like egg, luncheon meat, seasoned vegetables and mid-joint wings go up to a reasonable S$3.80.

Additionally, you get a free Hot Drink (U.P. S$1) of choice with every main order, if you choose to dine in. You can choose from a standard selection of local beverages such as the Kopi, Teh and Milo.
