Mei Fang Chicken Rice from defunct Mei Yuen Restaurant forced to relocate yet again

It seems like Edmund, the owner of Mei Fang Chicken Rice, has been playing musical chairs with his location. He has relocated yet again, this time sharing a spot within the premises of 328 Katong Laksa as of 1 Jun 2024— and it’s not like he had much of a choice.

After Mei Yuen Restaurant closed its doors in January, Edmund set up shop within Brunners Coffeeshop on 1 Mar 2024. Business was booming as his regulars flocked back. But just as he was settling into his new premises, he received a sudden notice within 2 months that the coffeeshop had changed management, forcing him to relocate yet again.

Thankfully, Edmund and the owners of 328 Katong Laksa (just a few units down) have been friends for a long time.

“In the past when 328 Katong  Laksa first started out, I helped them in whatever I could. That is why we have been good friends until now. For the first time in history, we have combined forces in the same eatery to help each other and work things out,” he added.

For those wondering if the prices of his chicken rice have changed, don’t worry— they remain the same. A plate of Steamed Chicken Rice and Roasted Chicken Rice still costs S$6 and an additional order of Braised Egg is S$1.

Starting from 5pm onwards, when Mei Fang Chicken Rice closes, 328 Katong Laksa also offers a steamboat menu alongside their signature laksa.

If you’re curious about what happened to Katong (Jago) Teochew Mee Pok Kway Teow Mee, which used to be at Brunners Coffeeshop, Edmund shared with me that they have moved back to their original location at Marine Parade Central Market and Food Centre.

So for those who panicked when their favourite chicken rice stall disappeared, fear not—you now know where they’ve relocated!
