Hi friends, I’ve returned once again to share 5 brand-new eating places across Singapore that have opened recently. If you’ve been following this series (my sincere thanks), you know that I try my utmost best to include 5 vastly different destinations with differing price points to suit various budgets and occasions. And with that, I present to you my list of the 5 new hawker stalls, rosti spots and restaurants that opened in Singapore in Oct 2026.

Warmhouse Nasi Lemak

Nestled in the blue zone of Chinatown Complex, Warmhouse Nasi Lemak is opened by Singaporean Kenneth and his Taiwanese wife, Cindy, whose dreams were to experience being hawkers in Singapore. This photographer and make-up artist couple decided to combine the food cultures of Taiwan and Singapore onto their plates of coconut rice.

I’m still salivating over the Set B Taiwanese Salt & Pepper Popcorn Chicken Nasi Lemak (S$5.50). The mini orbs of salt and pepper chicken were plump and juicy, garnished with fried basil leaves. The fluffy coconut rice possesses a strong but not overpowering coconut flavour. The unique, flowy ramen egg won me over. I couldn’t help but wonder why nobody had thought of this pairing sooner because it was soooooo GOOD! I also adored the house-made dried shrimp-laden sambal that wasn’t so sweet and had texture. You can also try the Set A Warmhouse Nasi Lemak (S$5) that comes with chicken wing and luncheon meat.

Petra

new openings oct - PETRA

Petra is the newest Mediterranean spot at Dempsey by Executive Chef Anas Shami that delivers a fresh perspective of Eastern Mediterranean dining to our shores, paying homage to the region’s culinary traditions, exuberant flavours, and the culture of gathering together to enjoy a meal. The space is romantic and even comes with a pet-friendly outdoor terrace.

Some dishes that remain etched in our memory are the house-baked Barbari w/ Sesame Seeds (S$12) paired with the Mezze Dip Trio (S$32) — hummus, marbukham and taramasalata. The Crispy Falafel (S$18) with ponzu edamame and the thin, crispy Eggplant & Zucchini Chips (S$22) served with tzatziki, saffron honey, and dukkah nuts were great. Seafood lovers will love the Chargrilled Japanese mackerel (S$56) with fennel drizzled in sumac vinaigrette, while the Chicken Shawarma Skewer (S$32) is marinated with hawaij spices and slathered with capsicum sauce.

Hippopotato

Thank goodness for Hippopotato, a new addition to the lacklustre food scene at Punggol’s Northshore Plaza. If I’m being brutally honest, there’s hardly anything left to entice me to swing by, especially since Sixth Floor Oyster Cake and Little Caesar have vacated the mall. Hippopotato is run by a pair of brothers, who were previously making rosti as a home-based business at Tampines with raving reviews on Google. Oh, and one of them used to be an ex-chef at Marche dishing out rosti.

There are a total of 9 varieties to choose from starting with the Golden Classic Rosti (S$8) that’s served with just sour cream. The Okonomirosti (S$10.50) is perfect for Japanese fans who love a touch of umami with bonito flakes, zingy okonomiyaki sauce, and Japanese mayo crowning the rosti. There’s also other decadent options like Salted Egg Chicken Schnitzel Rosti (S$12.50) and Smokin’ Salmon Rosti (S$13.50).

Matsuya

60-year-old Japanese beef bowl chain, Matsuya, has stepped into Singapore’s food scene with its first Singapore outlet landing at the basement of Suntec City. The menu offerings are exactly the same as the ones in Japan, featuring a range of Rice Bowls, Unagi, Japanese curry, as well as Hamburg.

If you’re clueless on what to order, the classic Gyumeshi Beef Bowl (S$5.50 for small) is a good introduction. Enjoy tasty beef slices coupled with sweet onions over fluffy Japanese rice — it doesn’t get more comforting than that. Those with larger appetites can check out their other sizes — from Medium (S$5.90) to Double (S$10.90). My personal recommendation would be the Gyumeshi topped w/ Green Onion & Mentaiko Mayonnaise (S$8.50 for small). The combination of spring onions, creamy mentaiko, beef slices,  and seaweed had multi layers of flavour that danced in my mouth. Remember to add a Soft-Boiled Egg (+S$1.50) to hit that sweet spot!

Winners earn bragging rights and a permanent spot on OVER’s official Hall of Fame.

What tickled my fancy was the Shoryu-Clams! (S$35/S$68). Scrumptious white clams and earthy mushrooms are bathed in a rich buttery shoyu sauce, accompanied by a slice of sourdough to mop up all that lovely gravy. Another favourite was the Wing Me Over (S$10 for 6 pieces, S$28 for 18 pieces). Indulge in crispy and juicy wings that come with your choice of house sauce — buffalo dashi, nam pla, or wasabi soy ginger.  The wasabi soy ginger was our top pick! For mains, the Somen Like You (S$28/S$54) blew me away with its chewy, spicy somen, tossed in nanban and savoury soy sauce. Its paired with crispy chicken cutlet, egg mayo, and fresh scallions.
