I am pretty sure it was my dream at some point in my childhood to one day get paid to eat ice cream, and it’s wild that I get to do that on a very regular basis. And with dessert places popping up left, right, and centre, I’ve never had more fun at a job. Today we’re saying hello to Overscoop, yet another ice cream store nestled in the heartlands of Yishun at Junction Nine, offering your perennial ice cream flavours, plus that something extra.

Overscoop ice cream selection

Every scoop of ice cream ordered comes with a free mini scoop on top, or ‘overscoop’ as they affectionately call it—it’s a great way for the less adventurous to try a unique flavour without the worry of not liking it. Single Scoops will set you back S$4.20, though flavours from their Premium Collection and Signature Collection cost S$5.20 and S$6.20 respectively.

If you’ve watched Squid Game, the Honeycomb dalgona challenge won’t be an unfamiliar name to you. Let me do you one better: Overscoop’s Honeycomb (S$5.20) ice cream, which will definitely remind you of the sweet dalgona candy in ice cream form.

Overscoop also has a range of familiar flavours such as Bubblegum (S$5.20), not unlike the Paddle Pop flavour we so love, along with Mint Chocolate Chip (S$5.20), Roasted Pistachio (S$6.20), Belgian Chocolate (S$5.20) and more. The thing about ice cream is that it never goes wrong, but if I’m going to be stamping my seal of approval on a dessert, it has to absolutely blow me away.

If we’re talking unique flavours, the Mou Tai Liquour (S$6.20) will definitely stand out. I’ve tried my fair share of alcoholic ice cream—rum, whisky, Bailey’s, you name it—and it’s safe to say that Overscoop’s bai jiu flavour might require more tweaking if it’s going to go toe to toe with the big boys.

ice cream on croffles

Of course, bona fide dessert fiends won’t stop here. Opt for a serving of Crispy Waffles (S$5.50) which is drizzled with syrup and powdered sugar, or sink your teeth into a flaky Butter Croffle (S$5.50). There’s nothing that can really go wrong with these two options, especially when paired with ice cream.

Overscoop carries with it a tinge of nostalgia and comfort, though I left with one question: is it possible to revolutionise ice cream, or will it stay as the good ol’ comfort food that it always is?
