People’s Park Food Centre, located at 32 New Market Road in Chinatown, will be closing from 1 Apr to 30 Jun 2023 for renovation works.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) announced that the beloved hawker centre will be undergoing repair and redecoration works, along with 5 other hawker centres.

The other 5 counterparts are Sembawang Hills Food Centre, Blk 163 Bukit Merah Central, Blk 162 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, Blk 44 Holland Drive and Blk 117 Aljunied Ave 2.

Although the closure means that the hawker centre’s food stalls will not be accessible, the renovation works seems to be long overdue.

Several patrons have commented on its Google Reviews that the hawker centre “needs a lot of help” in terms of hygiene, as “random chicken bones on the floor, food scraps smeared on floor and random used tissues, chopstick wrappers and other disposables litter your every step”.

Delving a tad deeper, common negative comments are on the overall cleanliness of the centre. Because of such, it is quite heartening to hear that some action has been taken to rectify this issue.

I believe that many would look forward to the new and improved hawker centre in Jul 2023. Now would be the perfect opportunity to enjoy your favourite stalls, such as Ri Ri Hong Mala Xiang Guo 日日紅麻辣香鍋, while People’s Park Food Centre remains open to the public and take the chance to find another hawker centre to visit and enjoy Singapore’s local cuisines!
