Poh Ho Restaurant, located in Joo Chiat, will be closing down on 30 August 2022.

The popular coffee shop has been in operation for 40 years at 7 Crane Road, and houses four stalls, including a prata stall, a Malay food stall and an economic rice stall.

Poh Ho Restaurant also previously housed the massively popular Mr & Mrs Mohgan’s Super Crispy Prata, which relocated to Tin Yeang Restaurant in 2018.

Three brothers operate the coffeeshop, with the property being owned by their mother.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the owners of Poh Ho Restaurant have decided to retire, and the brothers and their mother could not find anyone to take over the business. They also reported that their children were unwilling to take over the business.

Of the four stalls located within Poh Ho Restaurant, two have already vacated the premises, while the other two stalls, Mei Wei Curry Vegetable Rice and Hock Thye Noodle House, have remained.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Mei Wei Curry Vegetable Rice has been operating in the coffee shop for 30 years, and will be set to relocate to Old Airport Road Food Centre.

One of the owners of Poh Ho Restaurant, Mr Zhao, shared with Shin Min Daily News that the coffeeshop was opened by his father in 1982, and that the coffeeshop was named after his great-grandfather.

Having been in operations for 40 years, many of the coffeeshop’s regular customers are naturally upset by the owners’ decision to close down.

It is unfortunate to see another nostalgic coffee shop shutter permanently, and hopefully, all the stall owners will be able to relocate to another location to continue their businesses.
